Safeco Field – Seattle, Washington

This $517 million facility serves as the home of the Seattle Mariners an exciting stadium complex that not only resembles some of the great ballparks of yesteryear but also incorporates a retractable roof to protect fans from the notorious Puget Sound weather.

The stadium has a capacity of 46,621 with the seats located close to the playing field, providing excellent lines of vision. The stadium features a natural grass playing surface and the entire site covers 19.59 acres with the ballpark containing 1,172,127 gross square feet.

The retractable roof opens or closes in only 8.5 minutes, covers an area of 8.7 acres, is 215 feet above ground elevation and weighs in excess of 20 million pounds. It has three moving sections that require 20 minutes to open and close and contains 13,000 tons of structural steel.

The stadium bowl contains 12,000 tons of structural steel and 50,000 cubic yards of concrete. Other ballpark amenities include a team store, picnic area, a children’s play area, an on-site restaurant, a baseball museum, 66 private suites as well as 12 party suites and a parking space for 1,525 vehicles.

CMTS was part of a joint venture between Huber, Hunt and Nichols, and Peter Kiewit & Sons Construction Company CMTS’ responsibilities included Quality Assurance/Quality Control, Cost Estimating and Safety Management. The project was completed within four years and timely delivery for the opening of the baseball season and opening game on July 15, 1999.

  1. What a great city Seattle is. They had an unbelievable snow storm recently, did you see that? 2 to 3 feet in some areas from what I understand. Crazy!
